Setting Product Prices — Stop Selling at a Loss

Manual price tags, market margin, pre-open pricing pass, and the fixed $5 booster pack exception.

Last updated: September 12, 2026

Quick Answer

Interact with each shelf price tag, set above market, complete every product before opening. Booster packs stay fixed at $5.

Hi, I'm Vook, a shopkeeper who bled starting cash because I stocked shelves and never touched the price tag.

Enter price — interact with the shelf tag before opening

Anime Shop Simulator does not auto-price inventory. Every product sits at a default low value until you change it. Customers will happily buy you out at a loss if you let them.

Hub context: beginners' guide. Booster flip math: opening packs.

Why default prices are a trap

Stock has a cost. Shelf price is your decision. Default = usually at or below what you paid.

I treat unpriced stock as a silent tax. Every minute open with default tags drains margin.

Note: Price tags are per product stack, not per shelf. New SKUs need their own pass.

Step-by-step

  1. Stock the shelf first — empty slots can't be priced meaningfully.
  2. Walk up and interact with the price tag.
  3. Enter a price above market — that's your margin. At or below market = wash or loss.
  4. Confirm — tag updates for that product.
  5. Repeat every product on every shelf.
  6. Finish before you open the shop. Sales at default prices are final.

My pre-open routine

I don't price while stocking — I miss slots.

  • Stock everything.
  • One room sweep, shelf by shelf.
  • Then open for customers.

Mid-session pricing catches items already sold at default. One pre-open pass fixed that for me.

Tip: Hub baseline I use on day one: Sawman $13.50, Bald Justice $15.60 — adjust if your market read differs.

Booster pack exception

Booster packs cannot be repriced. They always sell at $5.

Profit from packs comes from what's inside (singles, deck pieces), not the shelf tag. Don't waste time on the tag.

Price vs market

Position Result
Below market Loss
At market Break even — pointless
Above market Profit — the only correct setting

Warning: Open shop with defaults still active and customers drain inventory at bad numbers before you fix them.

Checklist before opening

  1. Every shelf stocked.
  2. Every tag touched.
  3. Every price above market.
  4. Booster packs left at $5.

All four true → safe to open. Any false → you're about to lose money.
