Beam Coating and Damage Type Matchups

30% beam reduction — check enemy coating, swap to physical/kinetic, coat your own units vs beam-heavy squads.

Last updated: September 10, 2026

Quick Answer

Beam Coating = −30% beam damage. Coated enemy → physical. Uncoated → beam. Recruit Gus carries coating for beam-heavy fights.

Beam into Beam Coating and you lose 30% damage silently — no popup, just a target that should be dead and is not.

Hub: Phase V combat.

Check before first shot

  1. Open enemy ability panel.
  2. Look for Beam Coating.
  3. Coated → physical / kinetic weapon.
  4. Not coated → beam freely.

Do this turn one, not after the third wasted attack.

Target coated? Use
Yes Physical
No Beam
Yes, you only have beams Swap unit or reposition

On your own mechs

Enemy beam-heavy? Coat your front line — their beams become 70% damage. Use physical attackers to punch through their coated units.

Recruit Gus ships with Beam Coating — cheap answer to beam spam. Early roster: items and recruits.

Common mistake

One damage type on autopilot until a coated mech appears and the fight doubles in length. One menu glance per new enemy type — that is the whole habit.
