Quick Answer
Emerald early → Ruby after Swamp Crypt → Sapphire at Obsidian Cavern → Diamond at Sanctum; max coin value before double-coin chance.
Each coin tier is basically its own wallet. Higher tiers gate the best Guild Hub buys. Farming only copper while Emeralds are locked = self-inflicted pain.

Lower tiers still drop alongside higher ones.
Drop upgrades (late)
- Coin drop value — flat multiplier on everything
- Double coin chance — RNG; pays off once value is already fat
I max value first. Double chance second. Exact numbers vary by build — don't trust round % from me, test your tree.
Selling at vendors
Shops pay in the zone's coin type. Need Sapphires? Don't dump gear at an Emerald vendor.
