Beginners Tips — Tricks the Tutorial Skips

Well coins, night vs day scheduling, bills, desk lamps, vacuum biomass, seasonal seed prices, and the 50-seed order cap.

Last updated: September 13, 2026

Quick Answer

Scoop well coins daily; cook and harvest by day, build and deliver after 11 PM; check Bank bills; lamp bright crops; vacuum weeds in one pass; bulk seeds in July — max 50 per species per order.

Hi, I'm Vook, a balcony gardener who only stopped bleeding cash after I learned the game runs on two clocks — growth time and my sleep button.

Spoilers ahead. These are systems the early tutorial never spells out. Main route stays on the hub walkthrough; this page is optional quality-of-life.

Well coins — free starter cash

Several lucky coins respawn in the well by the elephant out front every in-game day. They are easy to walk past once you are busy with mail orders.

Pick them up before you spend on seeds. With the trading skill Lady Luck, I have seen up to $35 extra per day on top of the coin pickups — worth grabbing early if you are skill-point shopping.

Day vs night — split your chores

After 11 PM the sim basically freezes growth: crops stop advancing, stoves won't finish dishes, and no fresh orders roll in. The slice between 11 PM and bed is dead time for timers — perfect for everything that does not need plants to tick.

Night block (11 PM → sleep):

  • Restock the shop listing on the tablet
  • Turn in orders you queued during the day
  • Large build / decorate / sow sessions while energy lasts

Shop NPCs and hand-ins still work at night. I stopped trying to “wait for morning” to deliver.

Day block:

  • Cooking
  • Watering, weeding, harvesting
  • Anything that depends on growth or new mail

I plan cooking blocks before 11 PM and treat late evening as construction shift. Saves a lot of half-finished salads.

Bills — check the tablet before money vanishes

Electricity and water invoices show up on a schedule. Open Tab → Bank → Bills often enough that a payment does not surprise you.

I glance at Bills every time I open the bank for a loan — same screen, zero extra walking.

Hub loan context: Phase VIII — Bank.

Desk lamps for “too dim” crops

Some species — onions are the usual example — want very bright rooms. Moving pots helps, but a small round desk lamp on a raised surface (stool, side table) pushes light into the green zone fast.

Catch: lamps shut off at day start. I re-toggle them every morning after I check the Alt overlay — otherwise yesterday’s fix silently stops working.

More on light placement: hub Phase IV.

Vacuum biomass after weeding — not piece by piece

Forking weeds and derooting leaves biomass scattered on the floor. Clicking every scrap wastes minutes.

My loop:

  1. Fork all weeds in the balcony run first
  2. Swap to the vacuum — one pass picks up the pile
  3. Dump into the composter once it is unlocked

Same energy cost, half the busywork. Ties into Phase III weeds.

Seasonal seed prices — buy in July, watch the cap

Seed tags on the tablet swing by month. Winter prices hurt; spring and summer are saner. July is the cheapest window I plan bulk buys around.

Shop rep still gates what you can see — seeds and blueprints guide for unlock order.

Current bug (watch your parcel): you cannot receive more than 50 seeds of one species in a single order. Example: five onion packs at 12 seeds each = 60 ordered, only 50 arrive at the parcel station. Split big hauls into two orders until it is patched.

Quick checklist

Tip When I use it
Well coins + Lady Luck Start of every day
Cook / harvest before 11 PM Before late session
Build / deliver after 11 PM Night energy block
Bank → Bills Before big purchases
Desk lamp on a table “Too dim” on Alt overlay
Vacuum after fork pass After weeding a row
Bulk seeds in July Mid-game stock-up
≤50 seeds per order Any bulk buy

None of these replace the hub route — they just make the same route less wasteful.
