My Fire is Bigger Than Yours: Beginners' Tips
Classic mode first hour — drag wood, rain shield, tree placement, lightning when to pivot, mis-clicks, and simplified physics.
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Quick Answer
Rain shield + cursor size first. Trees near but not in fire. Pivot to lightning chains before spam-clicking late. Simplified physics if laggy.
Hi, I'm Vook, a middle-aged coder who likes playing games a little too much.
This page is beginners' habits for My Fire is Bigger Than Yours — first hour only, before lightning carries the run. Same caveat as the hub: personal notes, not exhaustive. If your shop order differs, leave a comment.
I exited a round by clicking the wrong UI button once and lost a good layout — the game does not hold your hand about that.

Classic mode loop
- Pick Classic — the 100% route on my save.
- Drag wood into the fire (or catch mid-air once upgrades unlock).
- Earn money → buy upgrades between rounds.
- Survive rain — it shrinks fire and kills momentum.
- Repeat until Phase One (~500k) opens the map.
First purchases (priority)
| Order | Upgrade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cursor size | Easier catches — less wood bouncing off |
| 2 | Rain shield | Rain is the first run killer |
| 3 | Spawn faster + earn more | Income before exotic fuel |
| 4 | Shield + double money | Buffer + scale |
| 5 | Multi-catch | Two wood at once |
Do not chase max fire size before rain shield — I did, obviously.
Trees and layout
- Plant trees near fire for passive wood — outside the burn radius.
- Fire grows — trees that were safe at minute five burn at minute fifteen. Move them outward when smoke starts.
- Rearrange for visibility before buying random skill tree nodes — you need to see flying wood.
Rain phases
- Rain does not reset shop progress — it only threatens the current round fire.
- Round timer upgrade (mid game) can delete rain — huge for offense builds.
- Late game rain survives even absurd fire — survive the timer, keep buying upgrades.
When to pivot to lightning
Signs you should stop click-heroing:
- Wood piles faster than you can drag.
- Electric fuel and chain earnings are in the shop.
- Upgrades mention lightning clearing wood without burning.
Then stack chain count, range, and multipliers — lightning triggers explosions if you built explosive spawners. Fire becomes background noise.
Detail in hub Phase II.
Mis-clicks and round exits
- Clicking the wrong panel can end the round early — no undo.
- Save mental note of layout before experimental buys.
- Accidental exit just means reposition and continue — no permanent loss.
Lag and simplified physics
Endgame particles lag hard once fire covers the screen.
- Enable simplified physics in settings if FPS dies.
- I saw slightly lower earnings on my run — still worth it for the last upgrade purchases.
- Defeat the Sun and $1T in a round achievements happen after this toggle on my PC.
When to read the moon guide
If Phase Two finished and you unlocked moon spawners but cultists keep dying or moons burn instantly → moon phase guide.
